Stanley Dorfman (1927-)
Stanley Dorfman was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied painting
and fresco at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Academie Julian in Paris. After
completing his studies he settled in St Ives, working as a studio assistant
to Barbara Hepworth and joining the Penwith Society of Arts. His early
paintings are characterised by hard-edged abstraction and vibrant flat
colours. He
returned to South Africa, working extensively with mosaic and sculptural
wall constructions. His subsequent career has been in the television and
film industry, although latterly he has returned to painting.
