John Forrester (1922-2002)
John Forrester was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He began painting in the late 1930s, soon after going overseas where he associated with modern art groups. He lived in South Africa 1939-45. After war service he lived in St Ives from 1953-58 moving from there to Italy 1958-60 and then Paris in 1960. He was interested in the relationship between pictures and architecture and in the 1950s was appointed consultant to the Park Hill high-rise housing development in Sheffield, North Yorkshire.
