Patrick Heron (1920-1999)
Patrick Heron, painter and art critic was born in Headingly, Leeds. He studied
at the Slade School from 1937-39. He moved permanently to Eagles Nest, Zennor,
West Cornwall in 1956. At this time Heron was committed to non-figurative
painting, but still painted figurative works, exploring the idea that all
areas and styles of art were equally important. The Porthia Print by Patrick
is a representation of the view from the window from his house on St. Andrew’s
Street, St. Ives He was highly acclaimed as a writer as well as an artist.
He wrote a wonderful introduction to Denis’s 1969 exhibition at Marjorie
Parr’s gallery in London and spoke at the opening of Denis’s
80th birthday exhibition at the Penwith in 1992
