Alexander Mackenzie (1923-2002)
Alexander Mackenzie painter of abstracts, collagist, draughtsman and teacher,
born in Liverpool. After Army service in World War II, he attended Liverpool
College of Art, 1946–50, then moved to Newlyn, Cornwall. He taught
in Penzance, 1951–64, then for 20 years was head of the department
of fine art at Plymouth College of Art and Design. Became a member of Penwith
Society in 1952, Newlyn Society, 1956, exhibiting there, and in group shows
at Whitechapel and Bradford Art Galleries, New Art Centre, in the provinces
and abroad.
